You have heard it said, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Well in grant writing a couple days worth of preparation of funders you are looking to approach over the next 12 months will save you tons of time later and will greatly increase your chances of getting the grants you pursue.
Though I love to write grants and can’t wait to get started I have realized the value of “stopping the presses” and setting up a plan of action. In this plan I cover the following:
By doing this, I am able to identify at the beginning of each month what foundations we are targeting and for what purpose. This helps us greatly in projecting what income we might have going forward, recognizing we will never get everything we are asking for but we can make a fairly accurate estimate.

The Dare To Dream Grant Program – letter of inquiry deadline is January 30th

The National Christian Foundation deadline is in June of 2004 but it is not too early to start reviewing their website and review what you might approach them for. They have specific areas of interest that you should be aware of and limited funding in those areas. Their website is www.nationalchristian.com
Remember, those who fail to plan…plan to fail. Commit yourself today to get your schedule done of who you will be approaching in 2004 and you will be way ahead of most other organizations and have a unique advantage.
