Evaluation and Planning for 2005
At
this time of year most organizations are beginning to wind down 2004
with their annual appeal ready to drop in the mail. With nearly 60%
of all charitable giving taking place in the last two months of the
year, it only makes sense to reach out to your donors at this time.
But don't let this last second push prevent you from planning for
2005. Below are a few steps you should follow as you prepare for
2005:
* Step #1 - Evaluate 2004
- Begin now to evaluate what worked and what didn't work in
2004. After conducting your evaluation, you are ready to move on
to Step #2.
* Step #2 - Create or Update your Development
Plan
-It is important that you have a plan on where you will receive
your funds to operate in 2005. This should include goals for your
annual fund, grants, corporate gifts, planned gifts, and special
events. Strategies should be tied to each one of these areas to
help you reach your overall goal.
* Step #3 - Create your team
- The successful implementation of the plan requires a team
effort. Use volunteer board members or other individuals who can
help you implement the plan under your leadership. Remember, that
you OWN the plan and are accountable to see that it happens.
* Step #4 - Implement the Plan
- Kick-off the implementation of the plan with tangible and
visual goals. Be enthusiastic and confident to your constituency
and your volunteers that you can do this together. Periodic
check-ups along the way need to be factored in to make changes and
update progress. The plan is not "in stone" it is a living document
that can be tweeked in response to outside or unexpected
circumstances.
